Originally from Santa Ana, California, Alonso Luna grew up admiring his grandma’s work ethic and deep knowledge of cooking. She had always worked in kitchens, and so when at 14, Luna was offered a dishwasher position at a retirement home, he eagerly accepted, and it only took a week into the job for Luna to know that he wanted to be a cook. Two years later, he relocated his young family to Austin, Texas, where his excitement for cooking only continued to grow. He immersed himself in the kitchen, working in a number of restaurants Downtown and helping open Tillery Kitchen & Bar.
Luna then moved on to Native Hostel and later, the LINE Austin, where he was instrumental in designing the first menu at P6, the hotel’s rooftop lounge. A stint at Uchiko pushed him out of his comfort zone and instilled in him a new sense of creative confidence. With his expanded culinary skill set, Luna returned to the LINE. He led the property’s scratch kitchen, which is used by P6 and Arlo Grey, the LINE’s lakeside restaurant, in addition to the hotel’s catering services. Now, Luna is executive chef of P6, where he develops the lounge’s dynamic seasonal menu while focusing on celebrating fresh, local ingredients.
